I'm looking to replace the steering box on my '01 2500 4wd 24 valve. The play is between the wormgear &sector gear,I already have the pitnam shaft brace on. Who has the better rebuild or brand new improved box??

I chose Red Head as well! Very good box and very good price. $350 to me after shipping

Redhead. Works fine & is less expensive than Borgeson. I"m not knocking Borgeson. I ended up with a Borgeson steering shaft. Fine piece of equipment.

Shop charges 2 hrs. It will take that long if working by yourself without air and you have a steering brace to wiggle into place.

I just bought the 150 dollar box from orielleys and then bought a heavy metal gear box stabilizer off ebay...Drives like a chevy now!

Just put in a borgeson box about 500 miles ago. Awsome. Although my mechanic that put it in said that it was a little more involved than grinding it a little as stated on their website if you dont use their shaft.

^^ this is why i went Red Head. I turn my own wrenches and it's my DD so I stick to bolt in and go as much as I possibly can. And yes that pitman arm can be a real PITA. rent the puller from a parts store. I broke 2 before i got mine off

Red Head boxes! 'Bout a mile south of where I work and those guys are great to deal with. They know their stuff and their boxes are top notch.

Is the red head box just a stock replacement or is it an upgraded box? From what I understand the borgeson is an upgraded unit, is the red head the same type of deal?

What do you mean by "upgraded"? Redhead measures & fits different sized ball bearings to the worm gear which helps remove the play in the steering box. The owner Harvey said that the stock bearing is almost the wrong size. They also use various valving which affects how heavy the steering feels.

I have had multiple aftermarket boxes from both AGR and A1-Cardone. Cardone was the worst steering box(es) but AGR had multiple catastrophic failures that caused brakes and steering to vanish suddenly at the same time.

I have not had a Borgeson box so can't comment. I do have a Borgeson steering shaft which is top quality purchased from Genos who gave outstanding service.

Call Redhead if you want more specific info.

Has anyone tried a 3rd gen steering box? Was it a bolt-on, or what modifications had to be made?
