I have a 2006 mega cab with a loud knocking sound i have looked at the flywheel and clutch, and had a shop use a scanner to kill the enjectors one at a time he said no change in the sound. The noise will stop for 30 seconds somtimes and then come back. The oil pressure is good any suggestions.:confused013:

use a section of old garden hose as a stethscope to pinpoint the noise location.

start on the passenger side of the engine and listen to the side of the block below the turbo in several areas as it idles
can be used to pinpoint noisy injectors and valve train components.

that loud, may be a rod or wrist pin.
DO NOT drive it until you locate and ID the noise source.

I had a small noise that sounded like valve train noise to begin with. Then I was driving down the interstate and the noise start instanly very loud bang bang bang... I called a tow and as we were loading it the noise stoped for 30 sec. or so and the came back and it has stopped a couple times while moving it in and out of the shop. I took the oil filter off and cut it open with and there was a few small pieces of what looks like aluminum very small smaller than a grain of sand.

Well I got the engine rebuilt new hamilton cam new stock injectors runs great now smooth and quiet but my fuel mileage suck I have read that new injectors don't get the best mileage at first. I hope it picks up soon I got 13.5 on the first tank of fuel. I was getting around 18 to 20 mpg before the rebuild and injectors.

It takes 50k before the engine "loosens up" and millage starts to increase. I had a crapzilla caused engine failure at 55k and ended up sleaving #5/6 and I am almost at 100k now and the mileage is just starting to come up.
